Our mission is to lower the negative impact taxis can have on the environment, and reduce the use of fossil fuels. So, our cabs will either use alternative fuels or, if run on gasoline, get at least forty miles per gallon. We are always looking for new ways to fulfill our mission, and expect to improve as technology does.
Right now, Hub Cab is the only taxi in Corvallis that runs on recycled straight vegetable oil. This is oil that’s been rescued from restaurant waste, filtered, and put to another use as a carbon-neutral fuel that releases less hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and particulate matter into the air.
Why go green?
Even in a smaller town like Corvallis, it’s not unusual for a taxi to travel a hundred miles during one twelve hour shift. If there are seven taxis out there, each averaging fifteen miles per gallon, Corvallis taxis could be using over a hundred gallons of gas every day.
There are many reasons to reduce this consumption: Air pollution, US dependence on foreign oil, Dwindling oil supplies and the rising cost of fuel are a few.
